Monetization Strategies for Digital Creators
by ACE Intern– 2m read
The creator economy is an ecosystem that provides the tools for creators to succeed and create a business on their own. It's a full-on publishing solution and has all these community features, plus it has a lot of options to monetize your audience. Here are some examples of the monetization strategies that we see in the creator economy:
Advertising
One approach is having ads via an ad server like AdSense on your stuff. It's also what YouTube creators very often do. The second advertising-based business model in the creator economy is to work with individual brand partners. You can have ad reads on your podcast, partnerships in your YouTube clips, and more. For example, beauty YouTubers can partner with makeup brands to showcase their products and get paid for it.
Direct-to-Consumer
The most prominent ones certainly nowadays are subscriptions. We are also seeing and actively building new ones like NFT-based and token-based micro-payment-based premium content and premium community interaction stuff. For example, Patreon is a platform that allows creators to offer exclusive content to subscribers who pay a monthly fee.
Content as a Marketing Tool
It's another way creators use to sell other services and products. Even in e-commerce, creators with an audience have an advantage that nowadays it's almost upside down. There are companies who produce products, no-name products, and look for creators as the main sales channel. For example, a tech YouTuber can promote a new phone and include an affiliate link to buy it, receiving a commission for each sale made through that link.
Consulting
In the end, you are the product but in an individual client relationship that you want to have with somebody who's interested in your thinking, your theories, and your advice. For example, a marketing consultant can offer their services to businesses and individuals who want to improve their marketing strategies.
